Business Signs Matched to How Customers Find You

A roadside sign, a lit storefront, a logo behind the front desk: every business needs a different mix. Tell us where your customers come from and we will recommend the signs that reach them, then design, permit, build and install them from our Carrollton facility.

Which sign is right for my business?

Start with where customers first see you. If they find you from a busy road, a monument or pole sign does the reaching. If they park or walk up to your door, a storefront or building sign carries your name. Inside, a lobby sign and wall graphics confirm they are in the right place. Many businesses end up with two or three signs working together.

Sign selector

Find the sign that fits your business.

Pick your type of location and how customers reach you. The selector narrows storefront, building, monument, pole, interior, illuminated, window and vehicle signs down to the few that make sense for you, with a link to each one.

Where do most customers first notice you?

Brand visibility

Your sign is working every hour you are open, and every hour you are not.

A sign tells new customers where you are, reminds regulars you are still there and says something about the business before anyone opens the door. A crisp, well-lit sign says you are established and paying attention. A faded panel or a vinyl banner that never came down says something too.

The businesses that look most put together are consistent. The same logo, colors and typeface appear on the road sign, the fascia, the door and the lobby wall. When every piece matches, a new business looks like it belongs and a small one looks bigger than it is.

Roadside or storefront

Reaching drivers versus greeting visitors.

The two questions that shape most decisions: how far away does the sign need to work, and who controls the wall or the ground it will sit on?

Plenty of businesses use both: a storefront sign for the door and a panel on the center's monument or pylon for the road.

Exterior and interior

Outside gets them to the door. Inside finishes the job.

Exterior signs do the finding. They need scale, contrast and, for many businesses, light. They also face Texas sun, wind and hail, so materials and fastening matter as much as the design.

Interior signs do the confirming. A dimensional logo behind reception, suite and restroom signs down the hall and wall graphics in a waiting area tell visitors they are in the right place, and that this is a business that cares about details.

Before you decide

Five questions that narrow the choice quickly.

Bring rough answers to these and the first conversation about your sign gets specific fast.

01

Do you own or lease?

Tenants usually work within the landlord's sign criteria. Owners answer mainly to the city sign code, which brings more freedom and more decisions.

02

How do customers arrive?

Road traffic, a shared parking lot, foot traffic or appointments only. Each one points to a different primary sign.

03

Are you open after dark?

If customers look for you in the evening, or on short winter days, an illuminated sign keeps you findable.

04

What is already on site?

An existing pole, monument or cabinet in sound condition can often take a new face panel instead of a new structure.

05

Are your brand files ready?

Vector logo files and brand colors make design faster and more accurate. If all you have is a photo or a JPG, send it anyway and we will tell you what we need.

How we deliver

One team, from survey to switch-on.

Every business signs project follows the same six steps. Here is what each one means for this sign type.

  1. 01

    Discover

We learn how customers find you, then survey the site: sightlines, walls, frontage and any existing signs.

  2. 02

    Design

We recommend the right mix of signs and design them as one family in your logo, colors and typeface.

  3. 03

    Engineer

Each sign gets the structure, fastening and power plan its location calls for, on the wall or in the ground.

  4. 04

    Permit

We check your landlord criteria and the city sign code, then prepare and submit the permit applications.

  5. 05

    Fabricate

Signs are fabricated at our Carrollton facility, with colors and finishes matched across the whole set.

  6. 06

    Install

Installation is scheduled with you, and each sign is checked in place before we hand it over.

Dallas Fort Worth

Business signs for the way DFW gets around.

Dallas Fort Worth is a driving region. Many customers first see a business from a highway frontage road, a wide suburban arterial or across a crowded retail parking lot, and a sign that works on a quiet street can vanish there. Sign rules also change at every city line, so a sign that suits an office park in Plano may need rethinking for a retail pad in McKinney. We design for the road your customers actually use, build at our Carrollton facility and install anywhere in DFW.

What signs work best for roadside visibility?

Monument signs and pole or pylon signs. A monument sits at ground level near your entrance and works well where traffic is moderate and the building is close to the road. A pole or pylon sign raises your name above cars and landscaping for faster roads or buildings set far back. Local zoning decides which types and sizes are allowed.

What signs work for a storefront in a shopping center?

Usually channel letters or dimensional letters on the fascia, plus window graphics on the glass. Your landlord's tenant sign criteria will set the size, color and lighting rules. If the center has a monument or pylon, ask about a tenant panel for the road.

What signs work inside a business?

A lobby or reception sign with your logo, office and suite signs, interior wayfinding and wall graphics. Dimensional letters and halo-lit letters are popular behind front desks because they carry the exterior brand inside at a scale people see up close.

How many signs does a small business need?

Most need one primary exterior sign that people can read from where they approach. Many add window graphics, a panel on a shared road sign or a lobby sign. We recommend starting with the sign that brings customers to the door and adding others when they solve a real problem.

What is the process for getting a business sign?

Survey, design, engineering, permitting, fabrication and installation. We visit the site, show the sign on a photo of your building, detail how it mounts and gets power, secure landlord and city approval, build it in Carrollton and install it. You deal with one team throughout.

Do business signs need a permit?

Most exterior signs in DFW cities require a sign permit, and illuminated signs involve electrical work that must be done by a licensed electrical sign contractor. Interior signs and window graphics often have fewer requirements. Rules vary by city, so we check the code for your address as part of the project.

Where can I get business signs made near me?

If your business is in Dallas Fort Worth, we are close by. Signs Express fabricates at its Carrollton head office and manufacturing facility and installs across the Metroplex, including Dallas, Carrollton, Richardson, Plano, Frisco, Allen, McKinney and Fort Worth.

Can you update or repair the sign I already have?

Yes. We repair and maintain existing signs, replace LED components and power supplies, and replace face panels on cabinet, pole and monument signs. If the structure is sound, a new face is often the simplest way to put a new name or logo on an old sign.

Start with the space. End with a landmark.
